Challenge

Perini needed a flexible meshed network platform to accommodate growing technology requirements.

Perini needed to move to a platform which had scale, flexibility and inherent network-based class of service. Service to the end customer (the onsite Perini engineering teams) was paramount, and the current Frame Network, although good, lacked application-aware capability. Due to growth, PVC management had become a challenge. Although re-use of existing infrastructure was an attribute of a Frame-to-iQ Networking migration, Perini needed to have proof of concept in a live setting. They requested a Parallel iQ Networking solution be deployed and tested prior to going live with Perini's production applications.

Solution

Reduce Perini's network management time, increase network flexibility and build for future technology shifts.

The Qwest Account team proposed a 13-location iQ Networking Private Port solution with Integrated Management which:

• Reduced network management tasks eliminating PVC configuration management. iQ Networking Private Port utilizes multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) technology,which automatically meshes any new location with the existing network resulting in any-location-to-any-location connectivity.
• Offered class of service (CoS) capability for future application-aware requirements. Perini will be enabled to choose the right quality of service (QoS) schema for optimal application and end-user performance.
• Provided port migrations within the product family – DS0 to OCN and everything in between.
• Delivered more bandwidth and functionality for about the same price as the frame network it displaced.
