Qwest Private Line GeoMax
High-speed, multi-protocol, fiber-optic data transport service
Qwest® GeoMax® delivers the most-advanced dedicated Private Line Solution, combining fault-tolerant, high-speed data connectivity and unparalleled reliability. Based on dense wave division multiplexing (DWDM) technology, GeoMax supports the increasing demand from customers that place a high value on increased availability, continuity/disaster recovery and load sharing among mission-critical systems. Each GeoMax system is custom designed to your specific needs. The system is individually installed and dedicated to your business to support a variety of key applications including:
- IBM mainframe connectivity and channel extension.
- Synchronous optical network (SONET) interworking.
- Local area network/metropolitan area network (LAN/MAN)
connectivity and storage area networks (SANs).
- Business continuity and disaster recovery applications.
Description
Qwest GeoMax service is a high-speed, high-capacity, multi-protocol, data-networking solution for customers with significant data transmission needs. The service, which has the capability to provide diverse routes, combines DWDM technology with 24/7 proactive network monitoring and competitive service level agreements (SLAs). GeoMax uniquely supports both native and proprietary protocols (e.g., IBM mainframes) as well as industry-standard protocols such as SONET and Ethernet. A key advantage of DWDM technology is the transparency to the data being carried on it. It is bit rate and protocol independent, guaranteeing the low latency and 100 percent throughput your applications demand.

How it works
GeoMax uses DWDM technology that enables two or more optical signals with different wavelengths to
be simultaneously transmitted in the same direction over one strand of fiber. Separating the wavelength
at the distant ends dramatically increases the capacity of an optical fiber. The technology allows
Qwest to transport high-bandwidth native optical interfaces supporting mainframes, data center connectivity,
next-generation SONET and fiber-saver applications. In addition to capacity boost, DWDM offers complete
transparency, allowing support of multiple customer protocols and applications on a single platform. |
